Cruising Blog: Noumea, New Caledonia

Our first port of call was the city of Noumea – the capital and largest city of New Caledonia, it is situated on a protected deep water harbour which serves as the main port for New Caledonia.
My first impression as I stood on the balcony of my cabin was that it was a very bustling noisy city but the native people waiting on the wharf were extremely friendly as they welcomed the over 2000 of us “cruiselings” ashore.
There was several market stalls selling all manner of beautiful clothing, jewellery and trinkets made by the locals as we made our way to the “train”, to begin our tour of the city.
As we wound our way through the palm tree lined streets with beautiful golden beaches, crystal clear aqua waters and the azure blue sky I was reminded me of our gorgeous palm tree pendant. The Paua Shell Cabochon reflecting the very same colours as the vista I was seeing.
After spending the day in the sunshine soaking up the sights of this sophisticated provincial French town with the friendly charms, and heavenly climate of the pacific islands we boarded the ship again ready to sail off to our next destination.
