Jewellery for Weddings and Anniversaries: Eternity – Earrings and Pendants

One of the benefits of being in the Paua Shell jewellery industry is that I am never without exquisite unique pieces.
I never leave the house without jewellery in fact I almost feel naked without it.

Eternity Earrings – Paua – PE490/PE390
Eternity Pendant – Paua GP590/PO590
Eternity Earrings – Jade – JE490
Eternity Pendant – Jade – GO590

Eternity Earrings PE490

A sphere within a sphere our beautiful eternity symbol lends itself to the feeling of never ending time and motion as it curls around the precious cabochon. A truly timeless piece of New Zealand jewellery, I always wear these Eternity Earrings and Eternity Pendant with the perfectly matched Koru Stud Earrings Paua PE489/PE389 or JE489 Koru Stud Earrings Jade as a perfect set.
Eternity means “time without end, or infinity,” like people who promise to love one another for eternity — they aren’t planning to ever split up.
Eternity jewellery pieces are given to the loved ones of those who wish to provide their sweetheart with a token of just how loved and appreciated they are. As such, these pieces are typically reserved for occasions and moments in a couple’s life that are marked with particular love.
These can include engagements, wedding days, the day a child is born, anniversaries, Valentine’s Days, adversities that were successfully overcome together, and the day the couple buys their first house.

The meaning that each couple gives to eternity jewellery makes the jewellery even more special and will ensure that the woman will treasure the symbol for the rest of her lifetime.
Not only will be the jewellery be treasured for itself, but the personal meaning behind the gift will ensure that the person to whom it is given will remember it with all the more love.
As such, these fine unique pieces of jewellery will remain a part of the giver and recipient’s family as a beloved heirloom.
Our precious and unique New Zealand Jewellery lend themselves ideally to the perfect piece of Eternity Jewellery for the special loved ones in our lives.

Squares and rectangles: cufflinks and long bar earrings in Paua and Jade

Another shape or symbol which features predominately in our unique New Zealand Paua Shell Jewellery range is the square and rectangle shapes.
To me these shapes represent stability. In fact, the rectangle is the most used area shape in the majority of designs. Whether it be jewellery, furniture or even websites.

The reason for its popularity is because it is a trusted familiar shape that represents honesty, solidity and stability.
And when I think further about the humble square shape it leads me to think that the four sides of a square could symbolise:

  • The four cardinal directions (north, south, east, west).
  • The four major season (winter, spring, and summer, autumn).
  • The four cosmic elements (suns, moons, planets, stars).
  • The four common phases of human life (birth, child, adult, death).
  • The four prime elements (fire, earth, air, water).

As squares and rectangles have straight lines and right angles they have a very mathematical, balanced feel. These shapes scream rational, practical and conformity. As far as shapes go, these are neither flashy nor attention seekers – some may even venture to say that they are boring, however our clever jewellery designers have twisted and turned them to add interest to the humble square or rectangle New Zealand Jewellery pieces.

Square Cufflinks – Paua  – GP211/PO211
Square Cufflinks – Jade – GO211

Square Cufflinks GP211 Square Cufflinks (Jade) GO211

I don’t personally wear cufflinks of course but I have purchased a few sets for my three brothers who wear them with pride adorning their business shirts.
The myriad of colours on the unique New Zealand Paua Shell cabochon shimmers and shines when worn against a plain white business shirt – but also have the bonus of taking on the colours of any other shirt that is worn. This makes them a truly versatile set to wear on any occasion.
The shiny deep green of the Jade cabochon also adds an air of sophistication to any plain business shirt.
Our most popular cufflinks in our range are in fact the Square Cufflinks which lend themselves handsomely to any discerning gentleman’s attire. And the perfect unique New Zealand Jewellery for men.

Long Bar Earrings – Paua – PE224/PE124
Long Bar Earrings – Jade – JE224

These beautiful stunning Long bar earrings represent understated elegance and sophistication. The striking combination of smooth sleek lines and the beauty of the cabochon combine to make a set of New Zealand jewellery which I wear with pride.
With their smooth, straight lines and perfect right angles, rectangles lend a sense of stability and formality. Something about four points just feels solid (think about the four points of a compass). We trust the shape because it feels dependable and safe.

The Long Bar Earrings are certainly one of my statement pieces of fine New Zealand handcrafted jewellery.

Circle shaped Paua Shell Jewellery

Another shape or symbol which features predominately in our unique New Zealand Paua Shell Jewellery range is the circle or round shape.

To me the circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite, eternity, and timelessness.

As the sun, it is masculine power; as the soul and as encircling waters, it has a feminine maternal nature. It implies an idea of movement, and symbolizes the cycle of time, the planets’ journey around the sun (the circle of the zodiac), and the great rhythm of the universe.

To the native people of New Zealand – the Maori – a Circle or Porowhita represents the never ending circle of life and nature.
The closed circle is said to represent the circle of life which is has no beginning or end, is seamless and of which we are all a part. It also tells of the stars and planets which are part of the circle of life and contain the knowledge of our origins.
It is often used to enclose other elements such as the Koru, linking love and new life or new beginnings with the circle of life.

For an artist the circle represents the relationship or oneness between the artist and his craft, bringing together head, hand and heart.
Just as our elegant timeless pieces of Paua Shell Jewellery are handcrafted by our staff artists to perfection in every way.

Large Double Round Bangle GB102/PB102

I find this piece a more of a “special occasion” piece. Its understated elegance completes any special outfit. I recently attended a wedding and was rapt to see that this piece had been chosen for the bridesmaid’s jewellery. Certainly a special memory and a piece of jewellery for them to treasure always.

Small Round Ring – GP912/PO912

I see my Small Round ring as having great meaning – Circles have no beginning or end. They represent the eternal whole and in every culture represent the sun, the earth, the moon, the universe, and other celestial objects between – Our elegant round ring reminds me of the clear night skies we experience at this time of the year – with the moon shining brightly in the crisp night air.

Wrap Around Ring – GP941/PO941

Probably the most versatile and beautiful of our range is the Wrap around Ring. The ornately scalloped edge frames the slightly rounded cabochon elegantly on our Wrap around Ring – the smooth sleek panel then extends to wrap around the finger gently creating a truly unique piece of jewellery. It has become a forever treasured keepsake.

Round Stud Earrings – PE213/PE113
Antique Round Earrings – PE251/PE151

These simply elegant Round shaped earrings are another of my “go to” every day pair of Paua Shell Earrings. The advantage of having two pierce holes in each ear means that I can where the small Round Stud earrings in the top hole and the gorgeous Antique styled Round Earrings in the bottom hole. They also go perfectly with my Small Round Ring (GP912/PO912) as a Set which showcases the unique New Zealand Paua Shell Jewellery perfectly.

Obviously I have far too many favourite unique New Zealand Jewellery pieces to limit them to just a few blogs! So I will carry on this time with my next lot of stories as I expand to yet more unique and special pieces of my beloved Paua Shell Jewellery range. I gain my inspiration from the view above from my home.

Laurel Leaf Earrings

Laurel Leaf Pendant

Laurel Leaf Earrings PE188 Laurel Leaf pendant PO551

The humble laurel leaf has long been associated with Creativity. Our designers used their own creativity when they created this beautiful laurel leave complete with its own “shadow” or mirror image behind and wearing these beautiful Laurel Leaf Earrings inspires my own creativity.

Laurel leaves are above all a symbol of eternal glory, of special achievement, success and triumph. It has long been a symbol of victory (Laurel wreaths were given to the winner in the Pythian Games).

In fact, being presented with a laurel crown represents victory (in Ancient Greece, wreaths of laurel leaves were used to crown winners of athletic competitions in the ancient Olympic Games).

The laurel is also seen as a symbol of peace: a victory that signals the end to a conflict or competition.

In ancient times Laurel leaves were commonly put under pillows at night to gain inspiration through dreams and its intoxicating properties are associated with prophetic and poetic inspiration.

Just looking at my unique and precious Laurel Leaf Earrings and Pendant reminds me of all the things… all these attributes… I hope to achieve.

Wings Earrings

Wings Earrings PE434

I am blessed in that I live near a beach in the Marlborough Sounds with lush New Zealand native bush surrounding my home. The birds in this bush are very abundant as they swoop and glide from tree to tree and are a truly a marvellous symphony to hear. My beautiful Wings Earrings remind me of these birds as I wear them, reminiscing of their song and invoking such peaceful feelings.

There several very special and unique birds which stand out amongst the rest in the lush green bush nearby.

One of which is the New Zealand Pigeon or Kererū as the Native New Zealand people, Maori have named this large bird with iridescent green and bronze feathers on its head and a smart white vest. I often hear the noisy beat of its wings, a very distinctive sound in our forests.

The other one which is my personal favourite is the Tūī – Tūī are unique to New Zealand and these attractive birds can often be heard singing their beautiful melodies before they are spotted. You will recognise them by their distinctive white tuft under their throat.

And lastly – the sweet wee Fantail/pīwakawaka Known for its friendly ‘cheet cheet’ call and energetic flying antics, the aptly named fantail is one of the most common and widely distributed native birds on the New Zealand mainland. They often follow me around as I work in the gardens surrounding my home.

So no matter which bird I hear or see as I go about my day – I can take their influence with me as I wear my unique Wings Earrings.

The majestic Kererū

PE430/PE330 – Swoosh Earrings

Swoosh Earrings PE330

The design of Swoosh Earrings symbolises the rustling or swirling sound of something swooshing through the air…. Like a leaf twirling, twisting and turning in the breeze. Or the sound of the beach as it gently laps at the shoreline near my home.

I see the ocean as a living being – constantly moving and sometimes it almost seems to be “breathing” as the tides come and go.

I urge you all – if you are able – to stop and listen sometimes to the sounds of nature wherever in the world you may be. Maybe you too will hear a “Swoosh” – just like our Swoosh Earrings.

They are a perfect set when teamed with our Tulip pendant GP880/PO880

As you may have been able to glean from my blogs I have a special admiration and connection with the nature which surrounds me here in New Zealand. And it is this awe-inspiring environment which inspires my love of pieces of unique jewellery which relate to flowers in our Paua Shell and Jade Jewellery range.

Fox Glove Earrings – PE436/PE336

On a recent trip around the countryside I came across this beautiful fox glove flower plant – definitely an odd sight at this time of the year as they usually flower most in summer time.
But it reminded me of our delicate wee Fox Glove Earrings. The foxglove is indigenous to continental Europe and Britain. Their scientific name means “finger-like” and refers to the ease with which these flowers can be fitted over a human fingertip.

It has distinctive long purple flowering spikes that has escaped from the garden environment to naturalise in New Zealand. Its habitats include poor pastures, scrub and forest margins, stony riverbeds, roadsides and track sides. The foxglove is one of the most common naturalised species in the wetter parts of New Zealand.

To me the cute fox glove flowers conjure up images of fairy’s and goblins playing amongst and sheltering under the beautiful petals from the rain….but then I might just be a little more childlike at heart than most adults!?

Either way I hope you agree that our sweet Fox Glove Paua Shell earrings are just as pretty as their namesake.

Tulip Pendant – GP880/PO880

Springtime is hopefully just around the corner in our patch of paradise which is evident by the multitude of colourful flowers popping their heads through the cool frosty soil. One being the beautiful Tulip. I wear my tulip pendant as a symbol of the new beginnings springtime may bring.
Tulips more usually rise up in the early summer to produce cup-shaped blossoms in all the colours of the rainbow.
Whether you’ve fallen in love with Tulips after strolling through thousands of acres in the Netherlands or a trip to the corner floral shop, you can honour the world’s third most popular flower with our unique piece of New Zealand Jewellery.
Unlike some other blooms, the Tulip’s meaning changes greatly depending on its colour. For example:
Yellow is the colour of unrequited or spurned love. Sending a yellow Tulip to someone means you love them, but they may not return your feelings. Bright red is the colour of passion and perfect love. Purple is tied to royalty, but also abundance and prosperity. Pink is less intense affection and love, and also offers a more appropriate choice for friends and family.
However the benefit of our elegant Tulip pendant in our Paua Shell Jewellery range is that it comes in a myriad of facetted colours to create special meaning to anyone who may wear it.

Crocus Earrings – PE277/PE177
Crocus Pendant – GP803/PO803

With the emergence of springtime the crocus flower is one of the very first to bloom, It is no wonder it has a reputation as a symbol of cheerfulness and glee as it brings the landscape alive with colour after a long winter.

My cheerful bright Crocus Paua Shell jewellery pieces remind me of these wonderful feelings.
This flower is a perfect gift for someone who needs a bit of energy and positive vibes in their life. This beautiful flower is also a symbol of the happy days of childhood and walking around forests discovering them alongside the pathways. With their bright and playful colours they are the perfect flowers for backyards and gardens and will be sure to bring some positive energy and joy.
Gifting someone this flower is said to be a symbol of being glad you met this person or seeing this person. If you do decide to gift someone this gentle flower, your gesture is going to tell more to that person than anything you can say or do.

The three different colours of the Crocus flower are, purple which represents success, pride and dignity, is also a symbol of royalty and nobility. White Crocus flower is a symbol of purity, truth and innocence. And the yellow Crocus flower is a symbol of cheerfulness and joy. It is a beautiful piece of decoration in your home or a beautiful gift for someone who needs a little bit of happiness in their life.

To me the message behind the Crocus flower is that we should always look on the brighter side of life and to never forget the importance of positive thinking and positive attitude. The gorgeous colours of the Paua Shell in our unique Crocus jewellery are just as uplifting.
