As you may have been able to glean from my blogs I have a special admiration and connection with the nature which surrounds me here in New Zealand. And it is this awe-inspiring environment which inspires my love of pieces of unique jewellery which relate to flowers in our Paua Shell and Jade Jewellery range.
Fox Glove Earrings – PE436/PE336
On a recent trip around the countryside I came across this beautiful fox glove flower plant – definitely an odd sight at this time of the year as they usually flower most in summer time.
But it reminded me of our delicate wee Fox Glove Earrings. The foxglove is indigenous to continental Europe and Britain. Their scientific name means “finger-like” and refers to the ease with which these flowers can be fitted over a human fingertip.
It has distinctive long purple flowering spikes that has escaped from the garden environment to naturalise in New Zealand. Its habitats include poor pastures, scrub and forest margins, stony riverbeds, roadsides and track sides. The foxglove is one of the most common naturalised species in the wetter parts of New Zealand.
To me the cute fox glove flowers conjure up images of fairy’s and goblins playing amongst and sheltering under the beautiful petals from the rain….but then I might just be a little more childlike at heart than most adults!?
Either way I hope you agree that our sweet Fox Glove Paua Shell earrings are just as pretty as their namesake.
Tulip Pendant – GP880/PO880
Springtime is hopefully just around the corner in our patch of paradise which is evident by the multitude of colourful flowers popping their heads through the cool frosty soil. One being the beautiful Tulip. I wear my tulip pendant as a symbol of the new beginnings springtime may bring.
Tulips more usually rise up in the early summer to produce cup-shaped blossoms in all the colours of the rainbow.
Whether you’ve fallen in love with Tulips after strolling through thousands of acres in the Netherlands or a trip to the corner floral shop, you can honour the world’s third most popular flower with our unique piece of New Zealand Jewellery.
Unlike some other blooms, the Tulip’s meaning changes greatly depending on its colour. For example:
Yellow is the colour of unrequited or spurned love. Sending a yellow Tulip to someone means you love them, but they may not return your feelings. Bright red is the colour of passion and perfect love. Purple is tied to royalty, but also abundance and prosperity. Pink is less intense affection and love, and also offers a more appropriate choice for friends and family.
However the benefit of our elegant Tulip pendant in our Paua Shell Jewellery range is that it comes in a myriad of facetted colours to create special meaning to anyone who may wear it.
Crocus Earrings – PE277/PE177
With the emergence of springtime the crocus flower is one of the very first to bloom, It is no wonder it has a reputation as a symbol of cheerfulness and glee as it brings the landscape alive with colour after a long winter.
My cheerful bright Crocus Paua Shell jewellery pieces remind me of these wonderful feelings.
This flower is a perfect gift for someone who needs a bit of energy and positive vibes in their life. This beautiful flower is also a symbol of the happy days of childhood and walking around forests discovering them alongside the pathways. With their bright and playful colours they are the perfect flowers for backyards and gardens and will be sure to bring some positive energy and joy.
Gifting someone this flower is said to be a symbol of being glad you met this person or seeing this person. If you do decide to gift someone this gentle flower, your gesture is going to tell more to that person than anything you can say or do.
The three different colours of the Crocus flower are, purple which represents success, pride and dignity, is also a symbol of royalty and nobility. White Crocus flower is a symbol of purity, truth and innocence. And the yellow Crocus flower is a symbol of cheerfulness and joy. It is a beautiful piece of decoration in your home or a beautiful gift for someone who needs a little bit of happiness in their life.
To me the message behind the Crocus flower is that we should always look on the brighter side of life and to never forget the importance of positive thinking and positive attitude. The gorgeous colours of the Paua Shell in our unique Crocus jewellery are just as uplifting.
