Colours That Complement

One of the many advantages of working at Ariki New Zealand Jewellery is that I always have a special unique piece of fine New Zealand jewellery to complement any outfit I am wearing.

The myriad of colours of the natural Paua (or abalone shell as it is known elsewhere) shimmer and change in every angle as the light reflects off the crystals in the shell, meaning it will suit any colour of my favourite clothes.

In this blog I would like to give you a little information on colours that complement each other.

When selecting an outfit there are a few rules of thumb that can help you easily decide which pieces complement each other and which ones are more like water and oil.

Matching

The first thing to consider when picking matching accessories is what effect you are looking to achieve. Are you going for a bold attitude, a casual or simple look, or an elegant presence? Once that is clear, the next step is to decide what elements you want to match like your shoes and a scarf.

A simple way to get matching elements is to choose Jewellery sets, such our precious sterling silver pendant and earring set of SE10 and SP6 triple twist.

Maybe you are looking for a bolder look. That can be easily achieved with a fun, statement necklace and earrings set from our Paua Shell classic range of PE430 and GP880.

Both are great choices with their own style to help you achieve a finished look.

Accenting

Accenting is the way to go for those who prefer to showcase certain colours or shapes in their outfit.

One of the first things to take into consideration when working with a variety of clothing pieces and accessories is which aspects you are hoping to make more prominent. For example, is there a certain colour you want to pop?

When wearing something with many colours, such as a floral dress with different sized flowers in many hues, chose one of the smaller flowers and try to add elements to contrast its colour. Adding too many additional colours to an already colourful piece might not be the best choice, so stick to one colour and make it more eye-catching by adding elements that accentuate it.

Although having said that – as I mentioned the natural crystals in our Paua Shell jewellery reflect different colours and seem to take on any colour from your special outfit.

A great example of this is our GP802 – the colours of the Paua Shell cabochon are just gorgeous.

Not Only Jewelry

There is more than jewellery that can help you with your final look. You can apply the same concepts of colours and style when choosing a hat, a scarf, or even gloves to add polish to your outfit.

Keep your desired finished outfit in mind and have fun browsing through the hundreds of items that Ariki New Zealand Jewellery bring you. Create a list of items of your favourites to revisit and add different elements when putting an ensemble together for a stress-free wardrobe. Remember to add a few staple pieces that will go with a wide variety of styles and colours.

My most favourite accessory in winter is my merino sheep’s wool black poncho – however I cannot resist adding a scarf and one of our unique brooches to brighten up the dark colour – PO758 is one of my favourite brooches for this purpose.
