One of the most picturesque settlements in New Zealand, Arrowtown is just 20 minutes from the main bustling city of Queenstown but it feels like you are journeying back in time when you arrive.
The town was established in 1862, during the height of the Otago gold rush. The settlement grew quickly as pioneers constructed cottages, shops, hotels and churches, and the delightful town has maintained its rich heritage by retaining and restoring these historic buildings. Arrowtown is charming and quirky.
In April and May Arrowtown ignites with colour as deciduous trees prepare for winter. The streets are lined with these trees – providing a stunningly beautiful backdrop of various shades of red, yellow, purple, black, orange, pink, magenta, blue and brown.
